We have been retained by a fast-scaling SaaS and industrial AI company to assist in their search for a VP, Operations-Value Delivery operations leader based in their Global HQ office in Tempe, AZ who will treat operations as a strategic multiplier of revenue, margin, and customer value—not back‑office administration. The role will combine CFO‑level financial rigor, top‑tier consulting discipline, and world‑class operational design, earning the trust of senior customer stakeholders and internal partners alike.
Operating in a fast‑scaling SaaS and industrial AI environment, scaling toward global market leadership in industrial data and AI, the position will be accountable for building and leading a world‑class operations engine for the Value Delivery organization that consistently delivers in an environment where speed, precision, and cross‑functional alignment are non‑negotiable.
The ideal candidate is someone who has operated in a global COO for services operations: accountable for the operating model, P&L enablement, and organizational scalability, while driving customer value. You treat operations as a lever for long‑term account value, product adoption, and profitable growth. You obsess over utilization, margin, forecast accuracy, cash, capacity, and customer satisfaction—and you build systems, teams, and rituals that continuously improve those metrics at scale.
VP Operations that has led multi‑region professional services operations, built the financial and operational backbone for a fast‑growing SaaS business, and turned complexity into simple, scalable playbooks—this role is for you. Success will be measured by the ability to:
- Design and run a global operating model that enables regional delivery leaders to exceed aggressive growth and profitability targets.
- Turn data into decisions: provide tech-enabled, real‑time, actionable insight on pipeline, capacity, utilization, and margin.
- Build and retain a lean high‑performing operations organization that scales with the company’s product roadmap, portfolio, and go‑to‑market.
Responsibilities
Global P&L enablement & financial performance
- Architect and own the Value Delivery operating model that underpins the services P&L, including forecasting, pricing guardrails, portfolio mix, and investment decisions.
- Drive profitable growth by selling and enforcing standards for discounting, delivery models, and commercial constructs with Value Delivery leaders and Finance.
- Build and own the global Value Delivery performance dashboard, giving executives real‑time transparency on revenue, margins, backlog, cash, and utilization.
- Partner with Finance and regional leaders on revenue recognition, project accounting, and portfolio‑level performance reviews; ensure audit‑ready data and discipline.
- Lead scenario‑based financial models that guide hiring, partnering, investment, and portfolio decisions.
Staffing, capacity planning & resourcing
- Own the global capacity planning framework to align supply (skills, levels, locations) with demand (pipeline, backlog, strategic bets).
- Design scalable resourcing models blending full‑time, nearshore/offshore, contract, and partner resources to optimize cost, responsiveness, and expertise.
- Set global standards and tools for utilization management, skill‑tagging, bench strategy, and redeployment so every delivery leader operates from the same high‑quality data.
- Spot capacity gaps or surpluses early and drive proactive plans (hiring, cross‑training, partners, portfolio shifts) before they impact delivery, outcomes, or margins.
Delivery excellence, process & tooling
- Define and refine the end‑to‑end operating model for Value Delivery—from opportunity shaping and scoping through delivery, value realization, and renewals.
- Enforce and evolve delivery standards, methodologies, and operating rhythms with the PMO and regional leaders to enable consistent, repeatable success.
- Own the system and tool strategy for Value Delivery (e.g., PSA, time tracking, resource management), ensuring data quality, adoption, and integration with CRM and ERP.
- Drive root‑cause analysis and systemic fixes for delivery and operational issues; turn escalations and misses into improved processes and playbooks.
Partner to Regional Delivery Leadership
- Serve as the primary operational partner to each regional Value Delivery leader, ensuring they have the insights, frameworks, and mechanisms to run their regions as high‑performing businesses.
- Coordinate global standards while respecting regional commercial and talent nuances.
- Run structured performance reviews and forums where regional leaders compare performance, share best practices, and align on global improvements.
- Own the operating calendar for Value Delivery (QBRs, monthly business reviews, forecast and portfolio reviews) that drive accountability and improvement.
Strategic partnership & growth
- Partner with global Sales, RevOps and Service Offerings to ensure services are positioned, scoped, and sold in ways that are operationally sound, margin‑accretive, and outcome‑
- Design and operationalize new service offerings and commercial models (e.g., outcome‑based, subscription, managed services) with Product and regional leaders.
- Build and scale a partner operations framework for co‑delivery and subcontracting, including standards, performance tracking, and quality controls.
- Provide market intelligence on services operating models, pricing, and margin structures to shape the company’s global strategy.
Team leadership & capability building
- Build, lead, and develop a high‑performing and lean Value Delivery Operations team consisting of a Director, Delivery Excellence, the operating “spine” for delivery standards, strategic planning, and executive‑level storytelling and Technical / Analytics Lead, owner of tooling, data, and capacity modeling.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition and HR to recruit, onboard, and retain operations and analytics talent who operate at the intersection of finance, consulting, and delivery.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and disciplined, high‑quality data.
- Recognize and reward contributions based on customer outcomes, commercial impact, and operational excellence.
Monitor and report on key value delivery metrics
- Services revenue, margins, and financial performance by region, portfolio, and offering.
- Utilization, billable mix, bench, and capacity vs. demand across skills, levels, and geographies.
- Forecast accuracy for financials, capacity, and project delivery.
- Project success rate, on‑time/on‑budget delivery, and value realization milestones.
- Partner contribution, quality, and margin impact.
- Team engagement, retention, and productivity.
Education/Experience
- 15+ years of Professional Services, Consulting, or Business Operations leadership in SaaS, enterprise software, or industrial technology, with demonstrable responsibility for services P&L performance.
- Proven track record of running or enabling services P&L of 50M+ with accountability for revenue, margin, utilization, and team performance in complex B2B environments.
- Deep expertise in professional services operations, including forecasting, capacity planning, pricing, portfolio management, and project accounting.
- Exceptional financial acumen with the ability to build, interpret, and act on detailed financial and operational models, partnering closely with CFO/Finance teams.
- Experience in industrial data, IoT, or digital transformation programs is highly preferred.
- Proven ability to build, lead, and retain high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary teams in competitive talent markets.
- Experience with complex, multi‑million‑dollar customer programs where success depends on tight coordination between Sales, Delivery, Product, and partners.
- Strong understanding of SaaS delivery models and enterprise B2B dynamics, including familiarity with PSA/ERP/CRM environments and the data flows between them.
